How I Met Your Mother: Season Five Overview

Suit up for the hilarious Season Five of How I Met Your Mother, the outrageous, Emmy-nominated hit starring Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan!  The show’s funniest season to date is loaded with hook-ups, break-ups, and the return of Slapsgiving— not to mention the hottest guest stars imaginable, including Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, and Rachel Bilson.  On the dating front, Barney and Robin take their relationship to the next level—before calling it off—and Ted meets the roommate of his future wife in this uproarious, modern-day love story told in reverse.

How I Met Your Mother: Season Five Specifications

How I Met Your Mother excels in tossed-off bits of genius, from a saccharine book-on-tape read by Kenny Rogers to "But, uhm" to bagpipes to harmonizing with Will Shortz and Peter Bogdanovich. These little gems of comic absurdity perfectly complement the sitcom's other great strength, which is clever, twisty storytelling--plots that fold back into themselves, unfold in flashbacks, or cross-reference previous episodes. This narrative inventiveness is hardly surprising, given that the premise of the entire series is that it's being told by the future central character, Ted Mosby, to his two children, gradually revealing how he came to marry their mother.

By the fifth season, this premise is growing a little bit threadbare (particularly after some of the red herrings of the past two seasons), yet the show continues to hold abundant pleasures. The cast--Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, and Neil Patrick Harris--have an effortless lock on their characters, allowing them to pull off some perilously goofy bits that, in less confident hands, could have foundered (a musical homage to wearing suits, for example). The writing is crisp and driven; this half-hour sitcom crams in more plot turns than your average hour-long drama. The fifth season is not good to start with--the humor is much, much stronger if you've grown to love these characters over the previous four seasons--but for everyone who's been following Ted, Robin, Marshall, Lily, and Barney, it's essential viewing. Some surprising moments of melancholy are completely earned and stand out from the typical sitcom overreaching for "significance"; these moments are successfully rooted in the characters, who become more real every season… yes, even Barney. --Bret Fetzer

How I Met Your Mother: Season Three

How I Met Your Mother: Season Three Review

I think the show is great, but i want to make sure that whoever buys this season, or any purchase at all, does not purchase from the company "youikethat".

i purchased season 3 and 4 from youlikethat, and when i received my packages, i noticed that season 3 had only disc 1 and 2 disc 3's. i notified amazon who said i would have to return the season and wait 4 weeks for my money back, then repurchase with a different company. i left a negative feedback for youlikethat and they promptly emailed saying they would fix the error. they asked for my info said it would be shipped, then completely stopped any communication- it has been over three weeks with no contact.

they have NO problem recieving a purchasers money and giving them a defective product, then apologize and sweet talk the buyer. once the buyer removes the contact, they skip town.

DO NOT BUY FROM YOULIKETHAT, THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY AND GIVE FAULTY PRODUCTS.

How I Met Your Mother: Season Three Specifications

No other sitcom is as gleefully inventive as How I Met Your Mother. The basic setup is familiar stuff: Five charming, good-looking twentysomethings pal around New York City seeking love and happiness. But many episodes have a narrative trick. For example, when his friends try to persuade Ted (Josh Radnor) from going on a date with the doctor removing the butterfly tattoo he got while drunk, their justifications send the show careening back and forth among three interconnected flashbacks. Other episodes repeat scenes from different perspectives, or leap forward, or interrupt scenes to provide necessary exposition. None of this is groundbreaking, but it is consistently smart and clever--and when combined with crisp comic dialogue and zippy performances, it's pure sitcom delight. This is a show that manages to make a gang's in-jokes actually funny. Season Three is absolutely essential for any fan of the show, because this is the season we actually meet the title character; after two years of preamble, the mother to Ted's unnamed kids finally appears! But there are abundant other reasons to get this season, including Marshall (Jason Segel, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) buying a crooked apartment, Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) getting the yips and getting slapped, and the return of Robin Sparkles, Canadian teenybopper alter-ego of Robin (Cobie Smulders). There's a wee bit of unfortunate stuntcasting (though she doesn't embarrass herself, Britney Spears still sticks out by dint of sheer inescapable celebrity), but it's a minor flaw in an all-around superb season. Add in an abundance of commentaries, featurettes, music videos, additional scenes, and How I Met Your Mother: Season Three is clearly a must-have for fans and a great introduction for newcomers. --Bret Fetzer

How I Met Your Mother: Seasons 1-4

How I Met Your Mother: Seasons 1-4 Review

So this was available as the deal of the day and it was a hundred dollars off. Now I couldn't pass this up. I don't usually write reviews but I am willing to make the effort this time. I ordered it early in the morning on Thursday (0530) and I got it on Friday. It was scheduled for delivery Saturday so I was really quite surprised. Amazing deal and amazing service. I saw someone say that the service was too fast. Didn't have time to cancel the order. I would think that if you are buying something then you have looked around and done your homework pricing. No such thing as too fast when it comes to ordering something online. I only wish all service could be this good.

How I Met Your Mother: Seasons 1-4 Overview

Season One:

A love story in reverse: How I Met Your Mother is a fresh new comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. When Ted's best friends Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lilly (Alyson Hannigan) decide to tie the knot it sparks the search for his own Miss Right. Helping him in his quest is his bar-hopping "wing-man" Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a confirmed bachelor with plenty of wild schemes for picking up women. Ted's sites are set on the charming and independent Robin (Cobie Smulders), but destiny may have something different in mind. Told through a series of flashbacks, Ted recalls his single days, the highs and lows of dating and the search for true love.

Season Two:

A love story in reverse: A fresh new comedy about Ted and how he fell in love. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future about the 5 friends and their dating misadventures.

Season Three:

Friends minus one. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future about the 5 friends and their dating misadventures.

Season Four:

From dating dilemmas to career conundrums, the recently engaged Ted and his feisty friends find themselves at the crossroads of young adult life. While newlyweds Marshall and Lily contemplate parenthood, single gal Robin explores the advantages of having "friends with benefits." Meanwhile, the irrepressible, opinionated Barney continues his hilariously dogged pursuit of the fairer sex. As for Ted, his Miss Right is out there, but amid bar brawls, blizzards, and buck-naked strangers, how will he ever find her?
