Television's hottest show gets even juicier in its delicious second season. The women of Wisteria Lane are back, and just when you thought things couldn't get any steamier, a new neighbor and her handsome teenage son arrive to make new waves on the shady side of suburbia. Join the Emmy(R) Award-winning cast for all 24 episodes of Season Two, and discover Bree's new life without Rex, Lynette's chaotic return to the working world, and what becomes of Susan's on-again, off-again relationship with Mike. That's just the beginning of the secrets in store in this six-disc DVD experience. Sizzling with sensational bonus features, including revealing, never-before-seen story lines featuring Susan Mayer and Lynette Scavo, "there are almost too many things to love in DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES" (San Francisco Chronicle).

Desperate Housewives - The Complete Second Season Specifications

The ladies of Wisteria Lane returned for a second season of high anxiety, testy relationships, and a new mystery. Susan's (Teri Hatcher) angsty on-again off-again with Mike the plumber (James Denton) took an odd twist when her ex-husband (Richard Burgi) moved in with neighborhood seductress Edie (Nicollette Sheridan), then took an even odder one. Bree (Marcia Cross) resumed her widow's relationship with George the pharmacist (Roger Bart), then descended into personal addiction. Lynnette's (Felicity Huffman) return to the working world turned bizarre when her husband, Tom (Doug Savant), got tired of being a house-husband and returned to the workforce… at Lynnette's own firm. And Gabrielle (Eva Longoria) had to cope in her own unique way with Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) in prison.

With the first season's mystery surrounding Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong, still around as the narrator) revealed--though repercussions were still flying--the show's intrigue came from a new character, Betty Applewhite (Alfre Woodard), and her son (Mehcad Brooks), who try, unsuccessfully, to fit into Wisteria Lane while harboring their own secret. While Woodard is a great actor, her storyline tended to drag down the action, the brilliant Cross was saddled with two dismal character developments, and the housewives spent far too little time together. There were laughs to be had, however. Huffman's interplay with Savant was a highlight, and Gabrielle's conflict with a perceived rival named Sister Mary Bernard (Melinda Page Hamilton) was the funniest of the season. No longer as fresh as it had been in its debut season, Desperate Housewives ended up taking a back seat to its Sunday-night running mate, Grey's Anatomy, and was shut out of the major Emmy awards, but its late-season resurgence was a positive sign going into the third season. With Lesley Anne Warren as Susan's mother, Sophie; Bob Newhart as Sophie's beau; Andrea Bowen as Susan's steadfast daughter, Julie; Jay Harrington as Susan's doctor; Mark Moses and Cody Kasch as Paul and Zach Young, who continue to be plagued by Felicia Tilman (Harriet Sansom Harris) about what happened with Mary Alice; Shawn Pyfrom as Bree's rebellious son; Carol Burnett as Bree's stepmother; and Kyle MacLachlan as an oddball dentist.

On the DVDs
Creator Marc Cherry dominates the DVD features. He has a conversation with his muse, his mother; he comments on 27 minutes of his favorite scenes; and he has optional commentary on both the deleted scenes (15 minutes) and on the two unaired story lines. The longer of the story lines (11 minutes) focuses on Susan and her novel, with some nice interplay with Bob Newhart. In the shorter one (4 minutes), Lynnette tries to sneak in a phone call aboard a plane. The five lead actresses do get a chance to talk about their "juiciest bits" (about two minutes of recapping the season's kisses, etc.), the making of an episode, costumes, and their characters compared to TV's past housewives (with contributions from actresses such as Happy Days' Marion Ross and The Partridge Family's Shirley Jones). --David Horiuchi

Sex and the City: The Complete Second Season Specifications

A smart and savvy (albeit highly stylized) look at the single lives of four thirtysomething Manhattan women, Sex and the City: The Complete Second Season builds on the foundation of its first season with plot arcs that are both hilarious and heartfelt, taking the show from breakout hit to true pop-culture phenomenon. Relationship epiphanies coexist happily alongside farcical plots and zingy one-liners, resulting in emotionally satisfying episodes that feature the sharp kind of character-defining dialogue that seems to have disappeared from the rest of TV long ago. When last we left the NYC gals, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) had just broken up with a commitment-phobic Mr. Big (Chris Noth), but fans of Noth's seductive-yet-distant rake didn't have to wait long until he was back in the picture, as he and Carrie tried to make another go of it. Their relationship evolution, from reunion to second breakup, provides the core of the second season. The fittingly titled and keenly observed episode "Evolution" found Carrie trying to leave a few feminine belongings at Mr. Big's apartment with little success, charting the challenges and limits of intimacy. And the season's finale, "Ex and the City," was a melancholy goodbye for Carrie and Big that took its cue from The Way We Were. It wasn't all angst, though: among other adventures, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) puzzles over whether one of her beaus was "gay-straight" or "straight-gay"; Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) tries to date a guy who insists on having sex only in places where they might get caught; and Samantha (the exquisite Kim Cattrall) copes with dates who range from, um, not big enough to far too big--with numerous stops in between. Through it all, the four actresses cohered into a solid ensemble that played on their complex relationships among themselves as well as with men; in two short years, Parker and company became one of the best TV casts in over a decade. And to top it all off, the second season offers 18 episodes, six more than the first. Sometimes size really can make a difference! --Mark Englehart

Matlock - The Second Season

Matlock - The Second Season Review

Matlock - The Second Season Overview

Matlock is a legal drama series starring Andy Griffith as defense attorney Ben Matlock - a Harvard-educated, fiery southerner who charges 0,000 a case to brilliantly defend his clients by finding the real killer.

Matlock - The Second Season Specifications

High-profile Atlanta defense attorney Ben Matlock loves hot dogs, strums mountain tunes in his office, and isn’t clear on whether it is "do lunch and take a meeting" or vice versa. But he is, as one of his employees observes, "a real class act." Matlock is more urban than Mayberry Sheriff Andy Taylor from The Andy Griffith Show, but while both characters have a folksy Southern charm, no one underestimates Matlock; not at his fee (0,000!). No matter how carefully a killer plans and no matter how guilty Matlock’s client appears, Matlock always seems to know "something," which he reveals in a dramatic "moment of truth" in the courtroom worthy of Perry Mason. In some episodes, as in "Blind Justice," audiences are clued in as to the killer’s identity, but in most, we are in the dark. Matlock was one of television’s top 15 shows in this second season. It’s no mystery. Credit Griffith’s down home appeal. He’s as comfortable to viewers as Matlock’s favorite well-worn pair of shoes, which he replaces in one episode with a new pair exactly like it). Credit, too, clever writing, and some sly touches that manage to take Matlock just a little outside its comfort zone. The episode, "The Network," takes the format of a celebrity gossip show that reports on Matlock’s latest case, his defense of a Hollywood TV producer accused of killing a studio programming chief. Then-current NBC stars, including Betty White, Corbin Bernsen, Rhea Perlman, and even Alf, cameo as themselves talking about the less than admired victim. A stunt episode, "The Hucksters," in which viewers were invited to call a toll-free number to vote on the killer, is presented here with all three alternate endings. Season two saw cast shake-ups; Linda Purl, who portrayed Matlock’s daughter and partner, departed the series, opening the door for Nancy Stafford as Michelle Thomas, who is introduced in the season-opening two-parter, "The Billionaire," in which Matlock travels to England to defend a man accused of murdering his tycoon father. Kari Lizer also joined the cast as Matlock’s cute new law clerk, Cassie. Kene Holliday returns as Tyler Hudson, Matlock’s questionable investigator. A more worthy foil for Griffith and Matlock is Julie Sommars in her Golden Globe-winning role as feisty prosecutor Julie Marsh. They’re not exactly David and Maddie from Moonlighting, but their playfully combative relationship gives the show some sparks. This season features some great guest stars, including David McCallum (The Man From U.N.C.L.E., David Ogden Stiers (M*A*S*H), Max Gail (Barney Miller), Marg Helgenberger (C.S.I.), Mason Adams (Lou Grant), and David Carradine (Kung Fu). But this is Griffith’s show all the way. There were certainly edgier, contemporary series, but Matlock endures as the last name in comfort television, whose old fashioned pleasures of watching justice be served never get old. --Donald Liebenson

Gossip Girl: The Complete Second Season Overview

It's senior year for our beloved Upper East Siders, and the drama is at an all-time high. Applying for college is only one small part of the story, as new romances (and some not-so-new romances) bloom and fade, scandals erupt at every turn and alliances shift even faster than Gossip Girl can send an update. Families and reputations are destroyed and made; so are fortunes. And even the strongest friendships are tested. In this sizzling 25-episode, 7-disc Season Two, you never know what's next for Serena, Blair, Dan, Nate, Jenny, Chuck and Vanessa. Good thing Gossip Girl is always there to provide us with the latest, juiciest info!

Gossip Girl: The Complete Second Season Specifications

Gossip Girl loses a smidge of snark in season 2, but it's only a smidge, as the Upper East Siders ride out the senior-year traditions of college applications, prom, and graduation, but with Fashion Week and the Hamptons as glamorous backdrops. Serena (Blake Lively), wounded from her breakup/reunion/breakup with Dan (Penn Badgely), spends much of the season searching for her identity, which often steps on the toes of best frenemy Blair (Leighton Meester). Whether it be vying for a slot at Yale, or as queen bee of their prep school, these two have a complicated friendship perfectly summed up by another character: "You might be privileged, Blair, but you work for every single thing you achieve … Serena just glides through." Meanwhile, Nate (Chace Crawford) dallies with an older woman (Mädchen Amick) and his upper-crust family falls into financial ruin; Jenny attempts to break into fashion on her own assisted by an unhinged model (Willa Holland); and Dan finds himself drawn to the new, young English teacher (Laura Breckinridge). But the key story line throughout season 2 is the evolution of the romance between Blair and Chuck (Ed Westwick). The starts and stops aren't as frustrating are they are heartbreaking--particularly when the two admit they might just love the chase more than the reality of couplehood--but Meester and Westwick make a compelling portrayal of a couple so screwed up they may actually last. Other stories that don't involve Blair and/or Chuck are weak by comparison, particularly the season-ending Madoff story line, inspired by Anne Hathaway's real-life ex-boyfriend who made headlines when he was indicted for fraud. Moreover, characters and subplots fizzle out abruptly (Nate and Jenny's fleeting romance, the embezzlement finale). An '80s-set flashback episode, intended as a launch pad for a spinoff about Serena's mother, Lily, also fails to connect (the pilot was eventually rejected). But standout episodes include "The Age of Dissonance," set during a hilarious senior production of Edith Wharton's play, and "Seder Anything," centered around a Passover dinner hosted by Blair's new stepdad (Wallace Shawn, a welcome comic relief). Bonus features on the seven-disc set include Webisodes of Blair's scene-stealing Polish maid Dorota, unaired scenes, a gag reel, and a behind-the-scenes interview with the show's wardrobe supervisor, Eric Daman, who details his process for picking out the cast's designer wardrobe, which could be a supporting character on its own. --Ellen A. Pushing Daisies: The Complete Second Season

Pushing Daisies: The Complete Second Season Review

Pushing Daisies: The Complete Second Season Overview

PUSHING DAISIES:COMPLETE SECOND SSN - DVD Movie

Pushing Daisies: The Complete Second Season Specifications

The second season of Pushing Daisies became, unfortunately, its last--abruptly wrapping one of the most beautiful and unusual love stories ever told on TV. Farewell to Ned (Lee Pace), the handsome piemaker who can restore the dead with one touch (and un-restore them with another, or else end another life in exchange). Farewell to Chuck (Anna Friel), his true love, brought back to life by Ned and therefore forever untouchable by him again. Farewell to Olive (Kristin Chenoweth), the pixie who pines for our piemaker, and also to Emerson (Chi McBride), the P.I. who partners with Ned (and Chuck and Olive) to solve murders with inside information from the briefly revived. But what a memorable sendoff this second season is: starting with bees gone wild and a shirtless Ned, paying homage to Pete's Dragon in one lighthouse-centric episode, and ending with some measure of closure that comes in a 13th-episode, "we know we're canceled" rush. Like that finale, the season is not always as fully realized as its rich fairytale world, yet it still achieves genuine joy and longing. In many ways, it is a season of separation, with Olive off to a nunnery and Chuck out of Ned's apartment (for a little while, at least). Olive and Ned get to explore their potential romance, while Chuck gets some unexpected family time. This set contains several featurettes, most notably a celebration of the show's music (a character all its own) and series creator Bryan Fuller, who also brought us Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, and some of Heroes' best episodes. ("I never know what he's going to do, and I love that," says Chenoweth.) There's also a piece on what it takes to create the colorful corpses Ned brings to life as well as the technical challenge of creating a computer-generated rhino, but the real magic of this show comes from the heart. --Stephanie Reid-Simons

Everwood: The Complete Second Season

Everwood: The Complete Second Season Review

This is a great television series about a doctor who loses a wife in a accident and tries to get back on his feet by moving to a different city - a non-fictional town called Everwood, Colorado - along with his son and daughter. I really recommend that you watch it. You'll be satisfied.

In this second season of the series things get a little spicy with Amy, a girl Ephram meets at his new high school in the first season, and it turns out that he likes her, but still they haven't gone out yet because of her boyfriend who was in a coma in the first season comes out of it in the second season but later dies later in the season. You'll enjoy it, I guarantee it.

Follows Dr. Andy Brown and his son as they adjust to life in Everwood, Colorado, after relocating from Manhattan.

The O.C. - The Complete Second Season Specifications

The drama was poured on aplenty in the second season of The O.C., as the sun-dappled denizens of Orange County found their lives massively upended and then some. At the end of the first season, the Cohen household had been reduced to two--parents Sandy and Kirsten (Peter Gallagher and Kelly Rowan)--as the boys had flown the coop, moody Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie) back to Chino and goofy Seth (Adam Brody) for the wide expanse of the Pacific (somehow ending up in Portland, Oregon). Once the prodigal sons returned home, thanks to a lot of persuading, both tried to mend relationships with their former girlfriends, Marissa (Mischa Barton) and Summer (Rachel Bilson). While friendships were solidified, everyone was dating someone else: Seth was with sultry club manager Alex (Olivia Wilde), Summer with sensitive polo jock Zach (Michael Cassidy), Ryan with smart girl Lindsay (Shannon Lucio), and Marissa with her family's pool guy and a bottle of vodka.

That's just the first half of this year of The O.C., and we haven't even gotten to the adults yet. Both Sandy and Kirsten found themselves tempted away by more-than-willing suitors, and wicked Julie (Melinda Clarke), Marissa's mom, cheated on new husband Caleb (Alan Dale) with ex-husband Jimmy (Tate Donovan). An extremely tangled web was woven, one from which the show almost didn't recover: the Lindsay storyline started out strong but went nowhere, Sandy's ex-girlfriend (Kim Delaney) was a bit of a bore, and the same-sex relationship between Marissa and Alex never really gelled. All seemed like sure-fire character additions, but it was the later peripheral characters, including Billy Campbell as a magazine editor smitten with Kirsten and the menacing yet sexy Logan Marshall-Green as Ryan's ex-con brother, who injected The O.C. with energy, and helped steer the show back on course. Brody, who became the show's de facto poster boy, got to show off his comedic talents with the wonderful Bilson (who rode the Zach-Seth-Summer romantic triangle most smoothly), and the heretofore sullen McKenzie got to lighten up quite a bit, until the show's violent yet effective season finale.

Forsaking a good amount of its comedy for drama, The O.C. got a little too seriously soapy, but its characters were so compelling you couldn't stop watching--even waiflike Marissa grew some edges. Clarke's scheming Julie was a constant pleasure to watch, and Rowan turned Kirsten's late-season downturn into a steely yet heartfelt portrayal. Despite the bumps, The O.C. remained one of the most exciting shows to look forward to week after week, a soap with smarts thanks to its fresh dialogue, gifted cast, and careening plot arcs. --Mark Englehart

The Closer: The Complete Second Season

The Closer: The Complete Second Season Review

Love the series...love the actors.....addictive little gem. Refreshing over so many of the other law and order and stick something ugly in your face for sensationalism just because they can...more competing with one another on network TV than caring about the quality these days. NCIS and the new Mentalist programs are good. But the Mentalist could be so easily undone if they decide to kick it up next year. So jury is still out on that. The Closer oh my makes up for just about all the other shows and writers vices....the humorous ones the better. The cat so funny.....more more more and please don't quit or fall apart after 5 seasons....soon to be out on DVD too. Waiting just a few more days....we don't have satelite and pay for TV in our rural area. So love these DVD gems when you can find them. (House, Closer, Mash of course the classic to end all classics, Bones, you know less rude and crude stick it in your face shows and also their secret they build a cast that has relationships with one another. That's so the key to success. No one does it better than this series...kudos to the writers and actors and producers. More more more. Kevin Bacon....oh take a back seat the fans own her:)))) Just kidding!

The Closer: The Complete Second Season Overview

Brenda's back. Finally accepted by her LAPD homicide team after a year of hard-won victories, Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson spends less time fighting her co-workers and more time fighting the bad guys - like whoever left a body in Provenza's garage, or dropped a porn star's head in a dumpster, or offed a drug-addicted heiress. And there's almost as much happening on the domestic scene as the crime scene: Gabriel and Daniels kindle a romance and Brenda and Fritz put the flame under theirs when Fritz moves in. Kyra Sedgwick reprises her acclaimed role of Brenda and makes her the brilliant, complex, flawed, funny and totally irresistible heart of this crime-series powerhouse. Clue yourself in!

The Closer: The Complete Second Season Specifications

Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson may have put in a year already with the Los Angeles police department, but that doesn't mean the transplanted Southerner fits in yet. In the second season of the TNT drama The Closer, Brenda is less a fish out of water, but she's still not completely at home with her brash colleagues--some of whom resent her potent mixture of brains and beauty. All 15 episodes from the 2006-2007 are included in this four-disc box set. And aside from a couple episodes where viewers are able to correctly guess the ending about 20 minutes into the show, the cases are taut, provocative, and highly watchable. Much of the show's success is due to Kyra Sedgwick (The Woodsman, Something to Talk About), an actress who seemed poised for movie stardom before she took time off to raise a family with husband Kevin Bacon. As bull-headed as she is soft-hearted, Brenda has a wry sense of humor and delivers her punch lines with a gentle drawl. But don't mistake gentility for gullibility: Cross her and you've made an enemy for life. Even when she's stuck in sitcom-like situations--such as trying to hide from her mother that she's living with her boyfriend--Brenda brings believability to her situation. From the first episode (dealing with the investigation of a brutally murdered police officer) to the last (Brenda's attempt to bring down a terrorist organization), Sedgwick is riveting; no wonder, then, that the Golden Globes honored her in 2007 as best actress in a TV drama. Rounding out the cast are J.K. Simmons (The Spider-Man franchise) as Assistant Chief Will Pope, Jon Tenney (Fools Rush In) as her boyfriend Fritz, and Anthony John Denison (Wild Things) as hard-nosed Detective Andy Flynn. --Jae-Ha Kim

One Tree Hill: The Complete Second Season

One Tree Hill: The Complete Second Season Review

Granted, this season was not as good as the first, but it was still awesome!!! Looking forward to season 3. I usually never watch the shows when they are on prime time. I start watching after they move to another channel. I'm glad I started watching One Tree Hill on Soapnet, I am hooked!!!

One Tree Hill: The Complete Second Season Feature

  • ONE TREE HILL

One Tree Hill: The Complete Second Season Overview

Explores the lives of teenage half brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott, one a golden boy and the other an abandoned illegitimate child as they try to coexist in the small town of Tree Hill.
Genre: Television
Rating: NR
Release Date: 13-SEP-2005
Media Type: DVD

One Tree Hill: The Complete Second Season Specifications

One Tree Hill: The Complete Second Season finds life in an uproar for virtually every major and minor character in the WB series set in One Tree, North Carolina. Basketball sensation Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray), illegitimate son of One Tree Hill's resident J.R.-like figure, car dealer, and all-around monster Dan Scott (Paul Johansson), has left town with his Uncle Keith (Craig Sheffer) to start a new life. (Keith himself has split One Tree to nurse a broken heart after his marriage proposal to Lucas's mom, Karen, played by Moira Kelly, was rejected.) It's not long, however, before Lucas has second thoughts, prompted in part by Dan's recent heart attack and the mess he (Lucas) left behind with two girls, Peyton (Hilarie Burton) and Brooke (Sophia Bush). Meanwhile, Lucas's half-brother, Nathan (James Lafferty), has married the former's lifelong best friend, Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz), a union approved by the bride's parents but not by Nathan's mother, Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods). (It should be mentioned that Nathan and Haley, as with nearly every other young person on this show, are not yet high school seniors. They only look much older.)

All that's just the first couple of episodes of season 2. In the remaining 21, Dan temporarily fools everyone into believing he's a changed man following his cardiac crisis. In fact, he's worse than ever, trying to wreck Nathan and Haley's marriage, attempting to buy Lucas's loyalties, driving Deb into a drug-addicted stupor, pulling the rug out from beneath Keith (who took over Dan's dealership during the latter's illness), and waging a war, of sorts, with basketball coach Whitey (Barry Corbin) for influence over Nathan's destiny. While all this is going on, Haley leaves Nathan to join a music group, Peyton finds success running an all-ages night at a new club opened by Karen, Lucas finds evidence that Dan is cheating the IRS, Brooke's once-wealthy parents go broke, and actress Sheryl Lee (Twin Peaks) turns up toward season's end playing a mysterious visitor with a surprising connection to a major character's past. Whew. If One Tree Hill's first season succeeded in part because series creator Mark Schwahn kept, for a while, a tight focus on the early, rocky relationship between Nathan and Lucas, the second season works as a frenetic, ensemble drama with elements of camp and absurdity. The above-mentioned reference to Dallas villain J.R. Ewing proves apt in more ways than one. The final episode of One Tree Hill's sophomore season ends with its own, not-so-subtle variation on the classic who-shot-J.R. cliffhanger, leaving open to debate which of many possible One Tree candidates might have committed a foul (if understandable) bit of vengeance against a certain bad dude one loves to hate. --Tom Keogh

Alias: The Complete Second Season

Alias: The Complete Second Season Review

I'm a college student with hardly any fun in my life and watching an Alias episode when I have time is one of my favorite ways to relax! If you liked Season 1, you will definitely like Season 2. It was just as good--and maybe better! Yeah, some of the science is definitely wishy-washy, but whatever, it's one of the most entertaining TV shows out there.

Alias: The Complete Second Season Feature

Alias: The Complete Second Season Overview

Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 03/03/2009

Alias: The Complete Second Season Specifications

It was a family affair in the second season of J.J. Abrams's wonderfully inventive Alias, as super secret agent Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) came face-to-face with the mother of all super secret agents--her own mother, Irina Derevko (Lena Olin), a former KGB agent presumed dead but alive and more dangerous than ever. After shooting poor Syd, Irina later shows up at the doorstep of the CIA, offering to turn herself in and work for the good guys. But can she be trusted? Alias set up so much duplicity in its second season that it might have been hard to keep track of who was doing what to whom, but thanks to a great ensemble cast, fast-paced writing and direction, and some cannily cast guest stars, Alias rode a stunning emotional roller-coaster and never broke its momentum, even when halfway through the season, the show reinvented itself. With episode 13, "Phase One" (which aired after the Super Bowl to the show's biggest audience), Syd's original nemesis (and employer) SD-6 changes forever, yet the kick-butt agent still finds herself going up against the malevolent leader Sloane (Ron Rifkin) and his ever-changing set of henchmen. Action fans got plenty of fighting, while romantic Alias watchers swooned as Syd and the dashing Vaughn (Michael Vartan) finally consummated their unrequited love.

The critically acclaimed show owed a debt to Buffy the Vampire Slayer for its mix of action, romance, mystery, and moral quandaries, but in this season Alias truly came into its own--with a climax that came as a total shocker and prepped the show for an emotionally volatile third season. Guest stars included the phenomenal Amy Irving as Sloane's wife, Faye Dunaway as a nefarious bigwig, Christian Slater as a kidnapped scientist, and Ethan Hawke as a fellow CIA agent (or rather, two of them), but it was the dysfunctional nuclear family of Syd, Irina, and father Jack (Victor Garber) that gave Alias its heart and its strength, whether the three perfectly cast actors (all Emmy nominated) were just bickering or undertaking deadly hand-to-hand combat. And you thought your family had problems! --Mark Englehart

Torchwood: The Complete Second Season [Blu-ray]

Torchwood: The Complete Second Season [Blu-ray] Review

I love TORCHWOOD. It's great writing, direction and acting, combined with amazing effects. I am a huge fan of Davies' world--his DOCTOR WHO series is just tremendously fun to watch and this spin-off is just as captivating. In Season 2, Captain JAck and his crew go through a series of much more emotionally complex territory and along the way there are some nasty shocks and surprises, which keep you on the edge of your seat. I love the brilliant cast. Barrowman is simply adorable in the role of his life and everyone else is equally on par with the handsome lead. If you enjoy the new DOCTOR WHO, then this show is well worth your time! And on BLU RAY, the show looks and sounds even more amazing!

Torchwood: The Complete Second Season [Blu-ray] Overview

Torchwood follows the adventures of a team of investigators, led by the enigmatic Captain Jack. Set in the UK in the present day, the team use scavenged alien technology in a very real world to solve crime; both alien and human. Separate from the government. Outside the police. Beyond the United Nations. Everyone who works for Torchwood is young, under 35. Some say that's because it's a new science. Others say it's because they die young...

Torchwood: The Complete Second Season [Blu-ray] Specifications

The following are included in the second season of Torchwood: repeated bouts of unrequited love, homicidal ex-lovers, monsters from space and impending doom for major characters. Now, that's how a series' second season should play out! But what makes Russell T. (Doctor Who) Davies' sophomore set of adventure for Torchwood so engaging is that he bundles them together in a tight and cohesive package that remains dramatically involving while maintaining the proper level of science fiction adventure. John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness is back, having materialized in the final episode of Doctor Who's third series ("Last of the Time Lords"), and with him comes one of the show's most inventive characters: fellow Time Agent and former lover Captain John Hart, played by Buffy the Vampire Slayer's James Marsters. Hart wreaks considerable havoc in the series opener, "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," and returns several episodes later in "Fragments" to reveal Harkness' long lost brother Gray, who brings the series to a close in "Exit Wounds" with a horrific rash of violence that rends the Torchwood team permanently asunder. It's a finale that will leave fans agape by the final frame, but it's not the only stunner in the second season. "Reset" should also raise eyebrows with both the introduction of Doctor Who companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) in a three-episode arc, but also the shocking death and resurrection of a Torchwood member. Other highlights include "From Out of the Rain," which introduces one of the series' most intriguing villains, the Ghostmaker, and the alien "Adam," who throws the team into chaos with his power to suggest false memories. But the season's key storyline is the conflict between Jack, his brother Gray, and Captain Hart, which brings emotional heat and weight to the show's complex science and fantasy elements. Blu-ray specs are DTS HD and 1080i high definition, and standard-definition extras include all 13 episodes of Torchwood Declassified, the 10-minute companion series which explores elements of each episode, as well as "The Life and Deaths of Captain Jack Harkness," a 22-minute featurette (narrated by Freema Agyeman) about the character's immortal status that includes comments by Barrowman and Davies. Nine minutes of amusing outtakes and 18 minutes of deleted scenes bring this satisfying set to a close. --Paul Gaita

Veronica Mars: The Complete Second Season

Veronica Mars: The Complete Second Season Review

I must say, after watching the first season, I asked myself, how could they possibly top this? It was so great of a show that I thought it was gonna be one of those shows that had a great start and then drops to mediocre............Not with this show!! And now that I've seen all of season two, i can say just one thing, WOW!!!!! Season two delivers in more ways than season one did!!! I'll admit, it was much darker than season one but all the more better. New characters, bigger character development and one hell of a twist (or twists). If you haven't seen this show, i highly recommend you jump on the bandwagon!! This normally isnt my kind of show (or so I thought), but when I bought the first for real cheap and out of curiosity, I had to own all three seasons......Speaking of which, it's a shame that television cancels all of the good shows and leaves the craaaaaaaap still on air. If you have nothing but good things about this show, trust me, it lives up to its reputation and so much more. even though it doesn't portray our world accurately, it brillaint defines youngsters having important and pivitol roles like older people and thats what i respect about about the show. It definately made its place as my favorite show!!!! And it gets better, SEASON THREE IS EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST TWO!!!!

Veronica Mars: The Complete Second Season Overview

In the wealthy, seaside community of Neptune, California, the rich and powerful make the rules. Unfortunately for them, there's Veronica Mars, a smart, fearless 17-year-old apprentice private investigator. In season two, the Mars family finds themselves embroiled in another season-long mystery hitting closer to home, following a new local tragedy. Meanwhile, after a summer of surprises and sordid murder trials, Logan and best friend Duncan Kane find themselves at odds, while Veronica must deal with her increasingly complicated romantic life and a whole new school year with familiar and surprising fresh faces.

Veronica Mars: The Complete Second Season Specifications

The second season of Veronica Mars showcases the series' crackling-sharp writing and topnotch acting of star Kristen Bell and the rest of the cast. Veronica still struggles with the class wars in sunny Neptune, Calif., trying to find a balance between high school, love, helping her dad as a private eye, and doing the right thing. The ongoing thread of season 2 is the aftermath of a horrifying tragedy, and as Veronica and dad Keith try to find out what caused it, mysteries only compound. Shifty Sheriff Lamb, town powerbrokers, and various high-school cliques seem to undermine Veronica at every turn. Thankfully, Veronica has more chutzpah than Phillip Marlowe, and the side-of-the-mouth one-liners to match: "Well, actually," Veronica says dryly to a bad guy, "despite popular opinion, you really can't beat the truth out of someone." Some of the show's broad strokes echo the stellar Buffy the Vampire Slayer, yet Bell's Veronica doesn't need the supernatural to tackle a challenge. She's a real girl, conflicted, prickly, lovesick, yearning, sometimes even scared. As Veronica tries to solve the mystery, she must also handle her own heartbreaks, and the moral stumbles of those closest to her. Happily, she's got a great best pal, Wallace (the effervescent Percy Daggs III), and possibly the coolest, most understanding TV dad ever (Enrico Colantoni). The boxed set includes 22 episodes (many with deleted scenes), a behind-the-scenes mini-doc, a cute gag reel, and a short profile film, Veronica Mars: Not Your Average Teen Detective. You can say that again. --A.T. Hurley

Project Runway - The Complete Second Season

Project Runway - The Complete Second Season Review

PROJECT RUNWAY is above and beyond my very favorite reality show. The way it is filmed and produced is so impressive. The shows gets truly talented designers as contestants, the judges are true infamous people in the fashion industry and Heidi Klum is a very intelligent and articulate host who is just as knowledgable on the fashion as the judges. And the biggest star is Tim Gunn, the kind of mentor we all wish we had. He is the true heart of the show as he shares his wisdom and guidance on each garment being made.

Season 1 became a huge hit and season 2 came on at an even more entertaining level. The caliber and diversity of the designers is immense. Also the personalities were a perfect mix for some real fun back stage drama. My favorite has always been Daniel V but we also have Santino, Andre, Diana, Chloe and Nick. The challenges are imaginative and lots of fun. This dvd set is a must have for there are truly extended episodes with added never before seen footage. There are is also a ton of extras on this season. Bloopers and extended footage of the shows highlights. The WEAR ARE THEY NOW segments are also very informative.

I must comment on the review that stated it was all staged and that the judges don't actually make the decision on who is eliminated. Reviews here are meant for personal opinions. We may not agree with others but all have a right to voice their opinions. But stating facts incorrectly just infuriates me. The print at the end of the show cleary states that the judges consider the opinions of the producers and the network Bravo as well when making the elimination decision. But they are ultimately the final voice. This makes perfect sense and is perfectly acceptable. Michael Kors is a world renowned designer and Nina Garcia is huge in the fashion industry. There are also guest judges such as Vera Wang. These people are all of the highest caliber and the show is first rate. None of these people would participate on something that was not truly on the up and up. This show is a hugely enjoyable foundation that honestly judges the contestants fashion. It just upsets me that this misinformation could keep someone from watching the show.

If you have never seen this show you must give it a try. It will suck you in and you will become a fashionista more than you ever imagined. I can watch thes seasons over and over.
Every season is intelligent, truly based on the creations of talented designers and the show builds to fashion week when the final 3 get to showcase their line. Such fun and such talent.

Project Runway - The Complete Second Season Specifications

Fabulous from head to toe, Project Runway differs from many of its reality-show peers in that 1) its contestants are actually skilled at a difficult trade (in this case, fashion design) and 2) it boasts the most engaging hosts (supermodel Heidi Klum and Parsons Fashion chair Tim Gunn, who's become a breakout star himself). Season Two benefits from a more streamlined process--gone is the model-picking cattle call every episode--and a cast twice as memorable as Season One. Compare the ideas of kind fashion teacher Nick vs. wearable-technology geek Diana; the profound commentary of South African boho-chick Kara ("there's a life to the garment") vs. dim-bulb early cast-off Heidi ("I thought it was just, pretty… I mean, she looked pretty"). Revel in the arrogant musings, over-the-top designs, and dead-on Tim Gunn impressions of Santino Rice, who was wrongly mislabeled the villain of Project Runway. That honor truly goes to bossy witch Zulema, who never met an excuse she didn't like, and broke a gentleman's agreement by swiping Nick's "muse," model Tarah, halfway through the season (In a bittersweet end, Zulema's subsequent ousting forced an early exit for Tarah as well). There's even a surprise return of Season One's Daniel Franco, whose quivering voice and shuffle added even more spice to the pot.

This season's challenges included designing for Barbie, heiress Nicky Hilton, figure skater Sasha Cohen, and supermodel Iman; creating outfits from the clothes off their back; and designing a garden-party dress out of flowers and plants. Watching their creations (which are, in many cases, impressive) criticized by grumpy judges Michael Kors and Elle fashion director Nina Garcia makes for some of the best drama on television.

The DVD includes the full, uncut versions of Santino's runway argument with Nina and flamboyant contestant Andre's weepy breakdown in front of the judges (9 minutes, 53 seconds); more musical numbers invented by Santino and Nick ("No one's gonna sew no mooooore"); footage of the cast's audition tapes, and a Where Are They Now? featurette with Season One's contestants. A must-have accessory for fans of the show. --Ellen A. Kim

Rules of Engagement: The Complete Second Season

Rules of Engagement: The Complete Second Season Review

Rules of Engagement is one of those comedies that come along once every ten years. I cannot remember a single episode that didn't make me laugh out loud. Great casting for each caracter and excellent writing makes this a winner. Patrick Warburton has incredible comedic timing. Bianca Kajlich is scary hot as well. Watch and enjoy.

Rules of Engagement: The Complete Second Season Overview

Here comes the next hilarious season of marital bliss and fantasies of the perfect mate! Whether it's Jeff's (Patrick Warburton) snoring that pushes him into the guest bedroom, the "unsexy" sex tape that Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) try to record, Audrey (Megyn Price) protecting her sister from "the perv" Russell (David Spade), or the time-share vacation they all take together, the second season of Rules of Engagement looks at love from all sides of the bed with humor and honesty that'll keep you laughing no matter what shape you or your relationship is in!

Rules of Engagement: The Complete Second Season Specifications

The misadventures of two couples and one destined-to-be-single loser in the sitcom Rules of Engagement carry into a second season featuring hit-and-miss urbane comedy. Patrick Warburton and Megyn Price remain the best thing about this show, playing the long-married Jeff and Audrey, an exemplary Mars & Venus pair who clearly love and care for one another beneath radically different perceptions of marital obligation and gender politics. Warburton, in a more refined version of his role as Elaine's obtuse boyfriend on Seinfeld, is very good as a character whose first impulse is to take the easy way out on every complex relationship issue, but usually comes around out of respect and love for his wife. Slightly less interesting are Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich), a younger couple navigating tricky waters of transition from the single life to wedded bliss. Meanwhile, Russell (David Spade) rounds things out as a would-be serial lover who rarely gets even mercy attention from the opposite sex. The notion that these five people form a tight social network doesn’t quite work (neither does the more fundamental relationship between the guys), but the show moves along so fast such details hardly matter. The balance between the characters, each of whom is at a unique stage of relationship evolution, is more compelling, though played entirely for laughs.

Highlights on Rules of Engagement: The Complete Second Season include "Flirting With Disaster," featuring parallel storylines about the impact of Jeff's snoring on Audrey's nighttime rest (the two sleep separately for a while, which brings out the frat boy in Jeff) while Adam copes with the temptations offered by a flirtatious waitress. The funny "Audrey's Sister" stars Heather Locklear as the titular sibling, whose relationship troubles encourage a desperate Russell to try get her in bed. "Guy Code" is an especially good show, in which Jeff feels honor-bound not to reveal the dark secrets he learns about an acquaintance whom Audrey assumes is a real gentleman. "Mr. Fix-It" is a novel storyline in which Adam and Jennifer decide to record themselves having sex, only to find it isn't as exciting in practice as in theory. "Optimal Male" concerns Jeff's obsession to lose a few pounds so he can qualify for cheaper life insurance, and the season-ending "Pimp My Bride" juggles stories about Adam and Jennifer's wedding date and Russell's decision to use his surprisingly sophisticated apartment as a love nest. --Tom Keogh

True Blood: The Complete Second Season (HBO Series)

True Blood: The Complete Second Season (HBO Series) Review

Great continuation of the TV version of the Sookie Stackhouse book series. Utilizing Michelle Forbes as Maryann was an awesome idea. It's hard to review the season without plot spoiling, so I'll just say if you enjoyed Season 1, Season 2 is an obvious choice, it's hilarious, campy, silly, gross, graphic, and just plain fun!

True Blood: The Complete Second Season (HBO Series) Overview

When we last checked in with Sookie Stackhouse, the mystery surrounding a Bon Temps serial killer had finally been solved, to the town’sinfinite relief. Sookie is thrilled that her vampire soulmate, Bill Compton, has escaped with his life (or is it death?) after coming to her daylight defense. On other fronts, Sookie’s pal Tara Thornton sets downnew roots with an affluent benefactor, Maryann Forrester; Sam Merlotte resolves to get in shape-shift shape after a forest foray; roguish brother Jason finds new purpose with an anti-vampire sect; and detectiveAndy Bellefleur licks his wounds after being proven wrong about Jason’s guilt. But just as things are settling down, some deadly new twists threaten to ratchet up the saga of Sookie Stackhouse to bloody new heights!

True Blood: The Complete Second Season (HBO Series) Specifications

True Blood's second season, with episodes involving a new cast of monsters invading Louisiana swamp town Bon Temps, is notably gorier and more camp than the first season. While thematically the central focus in these 12 exciting episodes still revolves around faith and loyalty, these questions are complicated by displays of pagan ritual and obsession. Though the vampire/human relationship dilemma continues, spearheaded by lovers Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), there is less emphasis on addiction to V, or vampire blood, and more time dedicated to outsiders whose supernatural talents make some episodes feel like superhero battles.

Episode 1, "Nothing but the Blood," sets the gory example with a brutal opening scene in which the local shaman has been eviscerated. While gruesome murders continue throughout the season, we become familiar with a new femme fatale, Maryann Forrester (Michelle Forbes), who hosts bacchanalia, such as the one in episode 4 ("Shake and Fingerpop") that gives Bon Temps a collective hangover. Also developing in this season are relationships between Sookie and Bill's vampire colleagues Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), Eric's master Godric, and a vampire queen who plays Yahtzee throughout episode 11 ("Frenzy"). The ever-increasing vampire interest in Sookie leads to her questioning her own supernatural psychic identity, especially in the final episode ("Beyond Here Lies Nothin'"), a semi-ridiculous, over-the-top segment that is more humorous than scary. Also corny but funny are the episodes featuring Fellowship of the Sun zealots Steve and Sarah Newlin (Michael McMillian and Anna Camp), and Jason Stackhouse's evangelical dedication to them (with Ryan Kwanten as Stackhouse). Perhaps the best episodes are those dedicated to the endangered plights of Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), and Tara (Rutina Wesley). New characters, like Tara's lover, Eggs (Mehcad Brooks), and the young, tempestuous vampire Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll), also add greatly to an already fabulous cast. Though the extras in this DVD set, "The Vampire Report (Special Edition)" and "Fellowship of the Sun: Reflections of Light," offer lighthearted, pseudo-documentary fun, they feel quaint next to the many wonderful episodes of this horror serial. --Trinie Dalton
