Animaniacs, Vol. 3

Animaniacs, Vol. 3 Review

I absolutely LOVE Animaniacs (and Tiny Toon Adventures)! These are the LAST cartoons made in the classic cartoon style (how I miss WB). I don't know what kids are watching these days! I'm so glad to have grown up in the 80s and 90s when real TV existed!!! I have all available volumes of Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures and watch them regularly . . . still laughing!! And, YES, I do still rock my Wakko key chain! (I really wish I could find another one! Mine is all worn out!)

I'm a bit surprised that others are complaining about packaging of all things! Who cares about the packaging?!? As long as my DVDs play! I do wish that there was a bit more bonus footage/behind the scenes at WB, however.

A must buy for real cartoon fans!

Animaniacs, Vol. 3 Overview

Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs! The adventures or misadventures of the Warner Brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner Sister, Dot, who were so crazy that the studio execs locked them away in the water town at the Studio. The witty, slapstick humor with pop culture parodies and cartoon wackiness is on DVD for the first time ever with 25 fantastic Animaniacs episodes.

Eureka: Season 3.0

Eureka: Season 3.0 Review

Even though I am a great fan of the show, season 3 has not been up to standards. There have been to many cast changes and the story quality has not been up to par with seasons 1 and 2. It is unfortunate that SyFy has broken so many shows up into 2 part seasons, as well as stretching the seasons out. I still like the show enough that I purchased the second half of season (Eureka 3.5).

If do not have seasons 1 and 2, then this is not a good place to start.

Eureka: Season 3.0 Overview

Make a return trip to the seemingly ordinary small town where extraordinary things happen with Eureka 3.0 in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. Reunite with the town’s hard-working sheriff, Carter (Colin Ferguson), as he tries to deal with his adopted hometown’s unique geniuses, volatile experiments and earth-shaking secrets … all while trying to raise his feisty teenage daughter on his own. Witty, surprising and full of intriguing mysteries, it’s the innovative SciFi Channel series that explores the fascinating intersections where human dilemmas and super-science collide.

The Hunt for Red October (Special Collector's Edition)

The Hunt for Red October (Special Collector's Edition) Review

Only a Scottsman like Sean Connery [AKA James Bond :-) ] could pull off a Russian sub skipper and right from the opening scene and set the pace for this coldwar thriller. When I first actually read the book I was impressed the plot which I was sure could only end up in some war. When I read that the movie was being made I couldn't image who could play this role well enough until I read it was Bond :-) .

I thought that Alex Baldwin did a good job as Jack Ryan, but the acting is over the top at times. Later movies had Harrison Ford in this role and that for me is a better fit...hell he even looks a bit like the pictures of Tom Clancy in shades.

All in all its still a great worth while movie all round.

I give it 4 out of 5 nukes

The Hunt for Red October (Special Collector's Edition) Overview

Based on Tom Clancy's bestseller, directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard) and starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER sweats with high-tech anxiety and the tension of men who hold Doomsday in their hands. A new technologically-superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius (Connery). The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack. A lone CIA analyst (Baldwin) has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it - because the entire Russian naval and air commands are trying to find him, too. The hunt is on!

The Hunt for Red October (Special Collector's Edition) Specifications

Before Harrison Ford assumed the mantle of playing Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan hero in Patriot Games, Alec Baldwin took a swing at the character in this John McTiernan film and hit one to the fence. If less instantly sympathetic than Ford, Baldwin is in some respects more interesting and nuanced as Ryan, and drawing comparisons between both actors' performances can make for some interesting postmovie discussion. That aside, The Hunt for Red October stands alone as a uniquely exciting adventure with a fantastic costar: Sean Connery as a Russian nuclear submarine captain attempting to defect to the West on his ship. Ryan must figure out his true motives for approaching the U.S. McTiernan (Predator, Die Hard) made an exceptionally handsome movie here with action sequences that really do take one's breath away. --Tom Keogh

Meet Me In St. Louis (Two-Disc Special Edition)

Meet Me In St. Louis (Two-Disc Special Edition) Review

This has to be one of the best movies ever made.
All the great songs, and a young beautiful Judy Garland.
It really does stand the test of time.

Meet Me In St. Louis (Two-Disc Special Edition) Overview

St. Louis 1903. The well-off Smith family has four beautiful daughters, including Esther and little Tootie. 17-year old Esther has fallen in love with the boy next door who has just moved in, John. He however, barely notices her at first. The family is shocked when Mr. Smith reveals that he has been transfered to a nice position in New York, which means that the family has to leave St. Louis and the St. Louis Fair.

Meet Me In St. Louis (Two-Disc Special Edition) Specifications

One of the finest American musicals, this 1944 film by Vincente Minnelli is an intentionally self-contained story set in 1903, in which a happy St. Louis family is shaken to their roots by the prospect of moving to New York, where the father has a better job pending. Judy Garland heads the cast in what amounts to a splendid, end-of-an-era story that nicely rhymes with the onset of the 20th century. The film is extraordinarily alive, the characters strong, and the musical numbers are so splendidly part of the storytelling that you don't feel the film has stopped for an interlude. --Tom Keogh

Sixteen Candles (High School Reunion Collection)

Sixteen Candles (High School Reunion Collection) Review

When I was younger, I would watch Sixteen Candles on "regular" t.v. (no cable) to just hear a song - True by Spandeau Ballet. I realized that i never watched the real version of the movie so on a whim i decided to add this to my collection. I'm so glad I did. I still love the scene at the dance but it was so much better to get this edition with all the behind the scenes info and interviews from the cast. It seemed especially timely after seeing the Molly Ringwald & others honoring John Hughes at the Oscars this year.

Sixteen Candles (High School Reunion Collection) Overview

It's Samantha Baker's sweet sixteen birthday and no one in her family remembers the occasion. She's a typical teen, enduring creepy freshman, spoiled siblings, confused parents and the Big Blonde on campus who stands between her and the boy of her dreams.

Sixteen Candles (High School Reunion Collection) Specifications

Molly Ringwald established herself as the teen queen of the '80s in this fresh comedy. The movie is a day in the life of Samantha, whose 16th birthday is turning out to be anything but sweet. All the traumas of teendom come down on one long day, which sees Samantha surrounded by dithery relatives, mooning over a high school hunk, and pursued by a sawed-off Lothario. Sixteen Candles marked the directing debut of John Hughes, and its goofy energy displayed a promising talent with a great ear for high school lingo ... a promise neglected since Hughes became, after Home Alone, a one-man entertainment industry. There are some pretty crass moments (Why the stereotype of the foreign-exchange student from Asia?), but Ringwald's steady appeal smoothes over the rough spots. As the pubescent, self-styled lady-killer, Anthony Michael Hall turns in a hilarious portrait of a young swinger; he and Ringwald would reteam with Hughes for The Breakfast Club, another key teen picture of the decade. --Robert Horton

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall Review

I enjoyed this film BUT there is something about Tara Fitzgerald that always comes across as extremely cold. I understand that for the most part it was required in her role in this film still, I think it was difficult for her to ever really warm up. Having said that, I thought she did very well in this film and the male leads were very good.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall Overview

Rupert Graves, Toby Stephens and Tara Fitzgerald star in this Peabody Award and BAFTA winning BBC Adaptation of the Anne Brontë novel. Powerful, haunting and disturbing, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is as powerful a story as those of Brontë’s more famous sisters. In a remote village on the Yorkshire moors, a beautiful widow and her son move into the near-derelict Wildfell Hall. Befriended by a handsome young farmer, she remains mysteriously silent about her past and why she is afraid – until she becomes the focus of malicious village gossip.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall Specifications

The BBC adaptation of Anne Bronte's moral tale The Tenant of Wildfell Hall will be a delight to those who revel in classics brought to the screen. Tara Fitzgerald stars as Helen Graham, a secretive woman who seeks independence for herself and her son from her cruel husband, Arthur Huntingdon. Huntingdon, a rake taken with women and drink, is played to perfection by Rupert Graves, believable as both the young lover who seduces Helen and as the depraved and brutish man he becomes. Toby Stephens is Gilbert Markham, the suspicious yet adoring yeoman farmer smitten with the supposed widow. The scenery and costumes of this period piece are lush, although the use of flashback as a narrative device is at times jarring. This tale is darker than the Jane Austen adaptations that BBC audiences are used to, yet the two-part film has an ending satisfying enough for even the most cynical of romantics. --Jenny Brown
